Annual Review Data
Issue: In search of flexible in-house data
It’s Annual Review time for the Executive KMPs at this top 50 ASX Listed company.
In the past they’ve purchased a report once a year from a large Consulting Firm, to cover the in-scope roles.
This provides them with the outcome of the market analysis – but not the underlying detail of the data behind the analysis in the report.
Brief: The attraction of a having data at your finger tips
The Head of Remuneration sees AscentData Direct as a way to source “when it is needed” data. This has the potential to change the way they utilise and analyse remuneration data and provide information to their internal stakeholders.
Her plan is to identify their Comparator Company List for the Annual Review as usual. Then they will create a range of specific Peer Groups to provide greater insight into the market data
Insight: Contracted Remuneration
AscentData Direct now includes contracted remuneration which provide full year remuneration values where available, which are not impacted by factors that influence the disclosed Base Pay in the annual report. This also enable many partial records to be included in the analysis given the annual values of Contracted Remuneration.
Approach: Detailed data is at hand as a new need arises
The Remuneration Team now looks for the trends in the on-screen data before they create a Project Peer group.
- On screen analysis – allows the Team to scope out the data available in a more precise manner.
- It is now project dependent – and varies according to the depth of data each project component requires
- Initial data scoping – relies on a broader data set, usually with one larger Peer Group
- As the project progresses – segmented Peer Groups specific to the task arise and can be refined over time.
- More than 1,000 Annual Reports – are always there to explore the data source in detail
Outcome: Resulting in a more responsive and exploratory approach
The Remuneration Team is better able to respond to a wide range of enquiries and What-if scenarios as the Annual Review is planned and decisions are made because the data is at hand.
- The flexible data source allows a more exploratory approach on-screen.
- This enables pre-empting of questions prior to the data being exported for further review.
- Data now leads the project, and any data can be dealt with immediately.
- Consequently, interruptions or delays waiting for extra external data are minimised.
- The team now spends less time collating data and more time identifying value adding insights
